Get Involved - A Letter from Mrs. Machen

Dear Fellow Gator:

As first lady of the University of Florida and chair of the Healthy Gators 2010 Initiative, I would like to formally introduce you to Healthy Gators 2010 and invite you to join this campuswide health initiative.

Healthy Gators 2010 is a coalition of students, faculty and staff from over 40 UF colleges, departments and organizations who are working together to create a healthier campus. The coalition is dedicated to promoting a campus environment supportive of the development and maintenance of a healthy body, mind and spirit for all members of the University of Florida community.

Healthy Gators 2010 is a part of Healthy People 2010 and Healthy Campus 2010. Healthy People 2010 is a set of national health objectives designed to promote health and prevent disease. National health objectives are set every ten years by federal agencies working with an alliance of more than 350 national organizations and 250 state health, mental health, substance abuse, and environmental agencies. Healthy Campus 2010 was created by the American College Health Association to assist in implementing the objectives from Healthy People 2010 that are most relevant to college campuses.

If you are passionate about health I would encourage you to join this truly unique effort to create a healthier campus culture. For more information on how to join Healthy Gators 2010, please contact Dr. Jill Varnes at jvarnes@hhp.ufl.edu.

Go Gators!
